October Newsletter

Dear Discovery Parents,

I hope you are all enjoying the Fall weather and activities- it’s always a great time for apple picking, pumpkin carving and wearing warm sweaters. We are moving ahead in the semester and looking forward to the Nutcracker Suite and our first Gymnastics House Meet in December. As we are settling into the semester, I thought I would pass on some other news and updates to everyone.

In the News

Did you see the recent article from New York Times, “How Exercise Can Boost the Child’s Brain?” It says “encourage young boys and girls to run, jump, squeal, hop and chase after each other or after erratically kicked balls, and you substantially improve their ability to think…” Discovery’s ballet dancers jump and leap, our gymnasts run and flip, our toddlers chase and squeal, and our Parkour kids jump and roll. We strive to bring physical activity to our students as well as increase their confidence and body awareness and inspire their creativity.

Winter/Spring Schedule

We are beginning to plan our Winter/Spring semester. If anyone has any requests for classes or times, please let us know. For parents with children ages six and older, we would like to know what other classes you are interested in. We have Parkour running and hope to add a 2nd class in the Spring from 3:00-4:00 on Fridays. Would your child like yoga or theatre? Would you and your child come to partner acro balancing? Please email katie.discovery@gmail.com with any feedback.

Birthday Parties

Discovery hosts birthday parties on Sundays and now Friday afternoons with a start time of 1:00 or 2:30. Our most popular parties are gym for tots and gymnastics but we also offer ballet and Parkour. You can contact Jordan at jordan.discoveryprograms@gmail.com for more information.

Fall and Spring Fairs

In the Spring, Discovery participated in a number of fitness nights and fairs for UWS schools. We are available again this Fall and next Spring to offer free demos at the fairs. If you are interested in having Discovery do a gym, dance, or Parkour demo at a fair, please email me at katie.discovery@gmail.com.
Finally, I hope you have had a chance to see the renovated gym highlighted in the photo above. The new lighting makes such a difference. Our team gymnasts are loving the spring floor as well.

Enjoy the fall weather!

Warm wishes,
Katie Kheel
