Kyra Schugt- Assistant Early Childhood
Kyra moved to New York City in November 2009, and is happy to continue
teaching at Discovery Programs. Originally from Minnesota, Kyra moved to
upstate New York to attend Wells College for undergraduate studies. Graduating
in May of 2009 with a BA in Art History and German, Kyra wanted to resume
working with children—a long time passion and calling. Since high
school Kyra has been a nanny, camp counselor, mentor, tutor and child advocate
in several states and with many associations. Some of her fondest memories
include coaching swimming for two summers at the Naval Academy in Annapolis,
and being a senior Counselor / lifeguard at Camp Gregory in Aurora, NY. She
worked as a staff teacher in two after school programs in Minneapolis, MN
and Ithaca, NY.
Her move to the Big Apple materialized out of a long-time dream to make
it in this metropolis as an artist. Happily, while teaching and being a
nanny, Kyra finds time to create art, bringing into her paintings much inspiration
and brightness from working with kids. On Saturdays she volunteers with
the Rush Kids Program in Brooklyn, an initiative to inspire kids to make
and analyze art. Currently she awaits placement for a Fulbright Teaching
Assistantship in Germany for the 2010-11 school year.
