The Spark – July 2016

A Note From The Director
Katie Kheel, Director

Dear Parents,

Summer Camp and classes are off to a great start. Summer is my favorite time of year! As we all know, the summer really flies by so, in this issue of The Spark, we wanted to highlight what our staff members recommend doing in the summer with your children!  I hope you are able to take advantage of the long summer days and enjoy some of these picks! Also, be sure to check out the great photos below, including one of Ms. Jessica’s wedding! Happy Summer!

Warm wishes,

Ms. Jessica

I love going to the Queens County Farm! This is where I used to go in preschool and now I take my younger brothers and cousins there.

*In other news…. Jessica also just got married at the Queens County Farm in May! It was a wonderful celebration and the whole Discovery family, past and present, was there! Be sure to congratulate Jessica when you see her and check out the photos from the wedding below!

Ms. Katrina
One of my favorite activities to do with children in the summer is row boating in Central Park. I have gone many times with the three children I nanny for, and each time we go, it is just as exciting as the first!

Ms. Katie
One of my favorite things to do with Sabrina is to jump on the train (less than an hour!) to Long Beach! We love relaxing in sand, paddle boarding and there are even surf lessons for kid and adults!

Ms. Jordan
I love walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. Once you make it to Brooklyn, you can eat pizza at Grimaldi’s and explore Brooklyn Bridge Park (which has a beautiful carousel).

Ms. Ashley
I love walking the Highline. There is a great fountain at the end where kids can walk/ cool off their feet. It is also nice to stop by Chelsea Market for a quick snack.

Ms. Julia
My favorite spot is Battery Park! It’s absolutley beautiful and they have a precious “under the sea” carousel. You can also take a quick and free ferry ride to Staten Island.

Ms. Timi
I think Union Square Farmers Market is a great option for kids. On Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, you and your child can explore the tastes, smells and sights of fresh produce and flowers. Don’t forget to stop by Max Brenner’s for a quick chocolately treat.

Ms. Diana
I love kayaking in the Hudson. It’s free and gives the kiddos a chance to enjoy the sunshine ( located at Pier 96: Manhattan Community Boat House).

Ms. Breyana
I love going to ” Snowy Day.” It’s a delicious, fancy ” shaved ice” store in the West Village (off of 10th & Greenwhich). It’s a unique treat & kids love it, especially on a hot summer day.
